Coral Tree Plaza Weekly Update
Happy Friday Coral Tree Plaza
Friendly Neighbor Reminder: Dog Run
In recent weeks I have noticed that the doors to the dog run are being left open. As a courtesy to other dog owners and residents, please keep these closed when you are entering or exiting the dog run. If you are in the dog run and someone needs to use the area, please maintain social distancing guidelines and do not gather. It is recommended that you sanitize before and after touching handles and gates, including those at the dog run. Shortly, we will wash down the dog run to clean things off a bit. I will notify the community when this is scheduled. It should not take more than an hour at the most.
Zoom Assistance / Board Meeting:
Next week on Wednesday, May 27th at 5:00 pm, the Board of Directors will meet via Zoom. This is an open meeting and homeowners are welcome to attend the meeting via Zoom. You may call in from your phone, or connect via internet using your computer camera.
I understand that this type of technology can be daunting at times. I have created a Zoom seminar for homeowners to try and call in to if they want assistance with Zoom. The seminar is on Tuesday, May 26th at 2:00 pm. Here are the meeting details:

By emailing me directly I can confirm whether or not you are a homeowner and can attend this meeting of the association. Please email me for this password no later than noon on Wednesday, May 27th.

Pool:
This week the county supervisors submitted a request to the Governor to allow San Diego to begin an expedited Phase 2. This Phase 2 permits in-restaurant dining. Unfortunately it does not permit pools to open. As soon as we heard that restaurants were opening, the Board and myself began taking action to try and re-open the pool. The county has stated that pools cannot be considered for reopening until Phase 3. Governor Newsom has indicated that Phase 3 could be as early as the beginning of June. As more information is revealed, I will continually update the community.
Non-Essential Work in Units:
I would like to thank all of the owners here at Coral Tree Plaza who refrained from taking on any home improvement projects that required third party contractors during the peak of the pandemic. By not bringing extra people to the property you restricted the potential exposure to the virus. Now that things are beginning to open up more, the board is in agreement that work can begin again at the association. If you are interested in having a vendor come to your unit for service, please feel free to do so. I will state that we are not out of the woods just yet. The less traffic at the property, the healthier we will all be for the foreseeable future.
Maintenance Update:
This was a very busy week for us at the association. Justin worked with San Diego Mechanical Energy to replace the seal kit and bearing on one of the Armstrong pumps, he power washed the entrance to the West building and blew the leaves out of P2. Justin and Antonio hung the urinal in the clubhouse bathroom. Victor and Justin cleaned out old trash and outdated files from storage rooms at the association. Additionally Victor installed another 4 floors of new door handles in the West building. Justin completed a fire safety walk and replaced any lightbulbs not working.
CTP READER’S CORNER: BOOK REVIEW #3*
Sapiens: A Brief History of Mankind. Yuval Harari (Harper, 2015). $22.99.
Six human species inhabited the earth 100,000 years ago−and now, only Homo Sapiens. With the advent of the Cognitive Revolution 70,000 years ago, our species ultimately dominated the other humanoids. We effectively ruled the animal kingdom as well. Otherwise, this would perhaps be a book called Planet of the Apes.
Beginning with the Agricultural Revolution, 10,000 years ago, we moved beyond forager status to create villages, cities, kingdoms, nations, gods, money, books, and political systems. Then came the post-medieval Scientific Revolution, followed by the Industrial and Information Revolutions.
Sapiens, with its colorful illustrations throughout, vividly portrays how history shaped our evolution and our personalities. The author integrates history, science, and numerous other disciplines in this fast-moving, brilliantly-written, and provocative expose on the human race. This book has been translated into fifty+ languages, selling more than 10,000,000 copies around the globe.
I wrote to the Israeli author, telling him why this book defied gravity: I could not put it down. I have now purchased his follow up work Homo Deus: A Brief History of Tomorrow. I hope to review it−if I get to read it, before the end of Covid19 ends this short-lived book review series.
